Join DILO's Regional Sales Manager, Chris Barrett, and Steve Skinner from Substation Consulting, LLC for an in-depth look into density monitors on SF6 gas breakers. Steve Skinner, an industry veteran, joined the T&D Industry in 1977. Steve has worked in installation, commissioning, and maintaining circuit breakers; a technical advisor to the personnel in the field;  a circuit breaker failure investigator. Steve also has extensive experience with on-line monitoring systems. Module 1: This is My Density will cover the relationship of pressure and density, the pros and cons of measuring each measurement and an overview of the difference operation of a pressure gauge and a density monitor. Chris Barrett is the Regional Manager for the west coast, based at our DILO facility in Portland, OR. He has been a part of the DILO team since 2011, and during his tenure, he has had the privilege of working directly with end-users in the field and at our main service facility in Odessa, FL as a shop technician. Module 2, How to Verify a Density Gauge, covers emission-free verification tools for SF6 and Alternative gas applications. Chris' presentation covers SF6 basics and emission control as well as details on Density Monitor Verification, including unit conversions, safety, and how to operate a DensiControl.    Read more

This 4-day, in-person course combines the expertise of DILO and Doble. Circuit breaker operational testing and management of SF6 gas are key aspects in maintaining circuit breakers to help ensure reliable operation.  The first two days of the training program focus on SF6 gas theory and practical equipment demonstrations. The aim is to provide technicians with the necessary knowledge to optimize SF6 gas handling practices, safety procedures, and regulations/reporting. The theoretical portion covers the characteristics and properties of SF6 gas, the differences between virgin and reconditioned gas, an in-depth analysis of contaminants found in SF6 gas, gas analysis theory, leak detection methods, zero-emission SF6 gas handling theory, and up-to-date regulatory and reporting information. During the practical, hands-on portion, learners will witness demonstrations of emission-free SF6 gas handling (recovery, evacuation, and filling), along with gas analysis and leak detection. Attendees will have the opportunity to handle equipment and ask questions in an intimate setting. In partnership with Doble, the second two days will cover circuit breaker testing. Moving parts on circuit breakers wear, alignments and clearances change and critical functions can be negatively affected. Tests made with circuit breaker testers reveal these and other changes, in advance of a failure, which could render the equipment inoperable and cause damage to the electrical power system. An introduction of various mechanism types, interrupters and testing methodologies will be discussed. For each test, there will be an in-depth discussion of each measurement, setup and test methodology, and acceptance criteria. A Vanguard specialist will provide training to decipher and review apparatus test results so that they are clear and easy to understand. Test results will be used for reporting and maintenance purposes and used for historical data samples to improve maintenance schedules.    COURSE LOCATION AND DATES This course will take place on June 2-5, 2025 at DILO Company in Odessa, Florida. The course will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST each day.  Address:  DILO Company 11642 Pyramid Drive Odessa, FL 33556   TRANSPORTATION AND LODGING This course is subject to a minimum attendance requirement.
